Fluorite
Are their any other sizes available?
- Unfortunately, no. We only have 500g bags available.
What is the process of tumbling and polishing fluorite?
- You will need silicon carbide grit, plastic pellets and a polishing compound - cerium oxide.
- The grits most commonly used are 80, 320 and 600.
- Plastic pellets are used to take up the rest of the space in the tumbler, so the stones aren't crashing into each other and cracking and breaking.
- Cerium oxide, is your final polish. This will polish your stones and make them shine.
- Please note - please don't use the same barrel for your silicone carbide grit and your polishing compound (cerium oxide). We always recommend having two separate barrels. This eliminates any chance of any cross contamination occurring.
- All of this can be purchased separately through our website.
How long do I leave my fluorite in the tumbler for?
- We recommend at least 5 - 7 days per grit.Than another 5 - 7 days for the polishing compound (cerium oxide).
- For start to finish roughly around 4 weeks to get a nice finish on your stones.
Please note:
- Each individual bag made may vary in colour and size of rough stones.
- Adult supervision is required for small children when handling the fluorite.
- Please use appropriate safety gear when handling the fluorite.
