Sunstone

Sunstone is known for its sparkling, warm appearance all due to the copper inclusions, goethite and hematite. With these inclusions it creates that shimmering effect called 'aventurescence' when light hits it. This is also known as 'schiller'.

What is it made up of?

• Sunstone is a variety of the mineral feldspar.

Colour range:

• Typically sunstone colour ranges from red, brown and orange. However, some specimens of sunstone do exhibit a transparent or also opaque quality.

Mohs hardness scale:

•  6 - 6.5

Where is it found?

• It has been found in Southern Norway, Sweden, various United States localities and on some beaches along the midcoast of South Australia.

Sunstone meaning:

• The sunstone is associated with the Sun's radiant energy. It is believed to ingrain optimism, courage and joy, permit the person to discover their true self and their place within the world.
