Tiger's Eye - Blue
Blue-Tigers-Eye is also known as Hawk’s Eye, Silicified Crocidolite, Falcon’s Eye, Rodusite, and Tiger’s Eye.
What is it made up of?
- Tiger's Eye forms when Quartz forms over existing bluish-grey Crocidolite, and eventually entirely replaces it. Crocidolite is a type of asbestos mineral, which means its composition is of fine, dense fibres. These fibres form in a parallel yet wavy orientation, and this causes the intriguing chatoyant effect exhibited in Tiger's Eye.
Colour range:
- Tiger's eye - blue often has a 'cat's eye' sheen. It can have bands of brown, gold and even cream along side the blue.
Mohs hardness scale:
- 6.5 to 7.
Where is it found?
- This stone is found in different locations all over the world, but its largest deposits can be found in Namibia, India, Canada, and Brazil. Other locations where it can occur is China, Australia and USA.
- This current stock comes from South Africa.
