The name "Mooka" comes from the Indigenous term for "running waters", which refers to the many springs in the area.
What is it made up of?
- Mookaite is a gemstone and type of Jasper. Mookaite is a sedimentary rock formed from the microscopic remains of radiolarians, tiny organisms that absorbed iron-rich minerals and silica from the sea and underground vents and springs.

- Mookaite is found in the Kennedy Ranges near Mooka Creek, on Mooka Station.
